Nestled in the heart of Gulshan, our school provides an exciting and well-designed learning environment where students can feel safe, comfortable and inspired to learn. The thoughtful design of the premises takes into account the curricular needs and teaching methodology employed in the school.
Classroom Facilities
Inside the school premises, we have a beautifully-designed learning space for the Early Years program with plenty of room for group work and individual exploration at different activity centers, which include a dramatic play and reading corner, a puzzle, blocks and manipulatives station, sensory/discovery manipulatives and lots of arts resources. This ‘no-shoe’ zone is carpeted with fire-retardant hypoallergenic carpets for the comfort and safety of the little learners.
The pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students learn in classrooms that include lots of resources and group-work tables, a classroom library, age-appropriate technology and surrounded by a colorful environment that will inspire their imaginations without causing too much distraction!
For Elementary students, classrooms include classroom libraries, plenty of storage for their personal belongings and also classroom resources including a classroom library.
All the classrooms have air-conditioning to maximize comfort. The furniture is specially-designed for the age-level of students, and in order to maximize interaction and inquiry-based learning. Ample, and well-organized, storage space has been built into the classrooms to ensure all resources and learning materials are kept safely, and are easily accessible by students and teachers, as necessary.
Sports and Physical Education
At Aurora, physical activity is an important aspect of our academic program. In the Early Years and Elementary School, outdoor or indoor activity is a daily routine. Different types of equipment and play items catering to the physical development requirements of children of all ages are part of the indoor and outdoor sports facilities of the school.
In addition to the play areas and multipurpose room on campus, we have an agreement with an external facility to provide access to a swimming pool which our students can use for our swimming program.
Technology
At Aurora, we integrate technology into all aspects of our operations. We use technology for the administration and management of the campus and expect all staff to be corresponding with each other, and parents, by email. Shared drives for saving documents, use of the internet for research, and maintaining a student database online are all key aspects of our organization.
In addition, we use technology in the classroom. Since many experts recommend that technology not be used to teach toddlers, we introduce smartboards for group learning from age 4 onwards. At this age, since our emphasis is on developing communication and social skills and hands-on learning, students’ interaction with technology is relatively limited. For Pre-K and Kindergarten students, digital resources such as educational games, videos and interactive software is used sparingly through smartboards that are fitted in their classrooms.
From Elementary School onwards, we expect students not only to use smartboards for group learning, but also tablets or laptops for individual use. In Middle School, parents are given guidelines about how and when students will be required to use technology, including bringing in their own devices to school.
School Library
Students visit the Aurora library to conduct research for their units of inquiry or to explore and check out books to read for pleasure. Our school library houses a wide range of resources for students to explore their units of inquiry, explore different topics of interest, and check-out books to read at home. The library is a rich resource for students and we encourage them to visit it regularly. Visits to the library are built into the academic program in both the Early Years and Elementary School.
In addition, in order to provide easy access to our Early Years and Elementary students, books related to their Units of Inquiry are provided in their own classrooms.
Campus Safety
Safety and security are our first priority, and many precautionary measures in the design of the campus have been taken, and in the choice of the materials used for the interiors of the building. In addition, we have a very detailed and stringent set of safety and security policies which are implemented. This includes health and hygiene, physical safety of children on campus, the security of the campus from external and internal threats, and disaster management / emergency guidelines.
