Waltz with Bashir
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one now many cannot help but be apathetic to. Despite the thousands of deaths on both sides and millions more affected, the ongoing nature of the conflict has given rise to the desensitization in its news coverage as well as public perception of the fighting. Yet the arts, through the often overlooked medium of animation, have successfully conveyed the grueling effects these intervening discrepancieshave had on the human psyche of those most affected. Through the use of camerawork, sound and dialogue; visionaries manifest peoples’ struggles during these times. Filmmakers manipulate lighting in their pictures to encapsulate the air of conflict. We can see the true cost put on human beings reinforced through their precise use of the colors. Colors used to convey a specific ambience and mood of tension to make us feel what they strive to emulate.
