I must say, that when I got a recommendation from a fellow otaku about this anime, who said, “It is by far the best thing I have seen in the past few years or so.”, I still had my doubts. But after I put my faith in his words and gave the anime a chance, I could not be thanking him more. This is ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’ by Nakaba Suzuki.

The title is surely an interesting one, but this is actually not a pretentious title that is used only to catch the eyes of an otaku who is on the hunt for good anime to watch; it justifies its naming in more than a literal sense.
The story is based on a fantastical realization of Middle Age Europe where the Kingdom of Britannia is protected by its mightiest warriors, the Holy Knights. The Holy Knights are highly skilled fighters; each with unique traits and abilities. When a group of seven of the mightiest amongst the Holy Knights were misunderstood as defectors and were banished from The Kingdom of Britannia, they gained the notorious nickname of “The Seven Deadly Sins”. Each member is named after the seven deadly sins in Christian belief. Each are named in the order that fits their own demons inside. It must be said that, their sins aren’t the only “deadly” part to them as one should NOT want to make them get seriously angry!

The two seasons of the anime, containing 24 episodes each, follows Meliodas, the leader and ‘The Dragon Sin of Wrath’ of ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’ which was disbanded 10 years prior. One day, a girl called Elizabeth Liones stumbles into his tavern and informs him of the coup that the current Holy Knights are planning in order to overthrow the monarch. He then sets off on an adventure along with Elizabeth and Hawk (a talking pig?!) in order to find all of the members of ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’ to stop the ill fate looming over the Kingdom of Britannia; facing many challenges and many more shenanigans of the powerful enemies he has to overcome. Along the way, many secrets and hidden truths of the world and the people are unraveled in what is quite easily, one of the best and most entertaining anime to have graced the screens within the past few years!
The story delves a LOT deeper in the source material, the manga, but the anime is really a must-watch for all the otakus and people who just have a nag for intricately designed plots that envelop your mind as you keep going deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole, just like in ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’. With an entertaining cast of characters who have interesting backstories and traits, the anime never disappoints.

Whether you are a full-fledged otaku, or just someone who just got to know about anime, I HIGHLY recommend that you give it a try, as it is bound to keep you on the edge of your seats while you dive right into the magical world portrayed in “The Seven Deadly Sins”
